This is Marie, contributing a recipe that Grant pointed out from a book he recently read and enjoyed tremendously, even though it made him hungry. The book is Pure Pork Awesomeness by Chef Kevin Gillespie, and we received a complimentary copy of it for review at The Hipster Dad’s Bookshelf. Short Ribs over Cheesy Polenta
This is Marie, contributing an article about a slow cooker recipe for beef short ribs. It’s just about the end of slow cooker season and I’d hardly used mine, so was feeling a bit of a.push toward getting some of those easy recipes cranked out. This is what seemed most interesting after a good bit of browsing: beef short ribs over cheesy polenta. The majority of my protein winds up as chicken and a certain teen of my acquaintance had mentioned steak with longing in her eyes (but that will need to wait for warmer weather when the grill becomes useful again), so it seemed like a good idea to get beef for once. Also, I’d meant for a long time to try making polenta and just hadn’t ever gotten around to it. Continue reading “Short Ribs over Cheesy Polenta”
Pork Sausage Meatballs
This is Marie, contributing an article about meatballs – specifically, a paleo meatball recipe that Grant turned up. We are unapologetically blase about mixing trends and served ours on noodles, but if you are looking for paleo it’s good up to that point. Continue reading “Pork Sausage Meatballs”
Penzeys Golden Moroccan Lamb Stew
This is Marie, contributing my take on a lamb stew recipe out of the Penzeys catalog. If you have been reading us for a while you know we are great fans of the Penzeys line of spices, and we also really appreciate how they do such a great job including delectable recipes in their catalogs. It’s hard to throw one away! Continue reading “Penzeys Golden Moroccan Lamb Stew”
Balsamic Chicken with Pickled Beets
This is Marie, contributing a recipe for balsamic chicken that did its very best to avoid being presented to you. Seriously, I lost this recipe at least three times, which is silly because I ought to have been able to remember it after one or two readings. So here it is, before the commentary with my alterations in parentheses, just in case: Continue reading “Balsamic Chicken with Pickled Beets”
Red Gold’s Easy Classic Lasagna
This is Marie, contributing a post about a lasagna made for Christmas dinner. It had been quite a while since I’d made one, and since the previous one I’d eaten (at a restaurant) was truly exceptional, the thought came back periodically that lasagna really needed to be on the menu options soon now that the weather was cool. Then the Red Gold company reached out and offered to send some of their tomatoes (we’d worked with them before on some really nice burgers here) and they were good, so I was happy to try another of their recipes. Creamy Tomato Tortellini with Sausage
This is Marie, contributing an article about an easy weekday dinner.
My husband and I have a different opinion about how to handle weekday dinners. When I was single, I was perfectly happy to make the same thing over and over, eat leftovers, and every once in a while make something wildly creative. He would prefer that I provide a little more daily variety, and offers recipes periodically to encourage and inspire. And occasionally, when I have been particularly monotonous, nag.
