When anybody talks about the best Vietnamese restaurants in Atlanta, Nam Phuong is one of the names you’re going to hear. I think this place is consistently excellent and always a pleasant surprise. Either by myself or with Marie or with friends, we’ve been to both of their Atlanta-area stores a few times and enjoyed some terrific meals. Continue reading “Nam Phuong, Atlanta GA (take two)”
Spicy Gaga Duck, Doraville GA
We haven’t featured any stories from Atlanta’s Buford Highway in a while, so we’re fixing that. It’s Buford Highway Week at Marie, Let’s Eat!, and here’s the first of five chapters about trips we’ve taken to this incredibly popular corridor over the last couple of months. Continue reading “Spicy Gaga Duck, Doraville GA”
Anis Cafe & Bistro, Atlanta GA
A couple of chapters back, I mentioned that Marie’s father was in town and had hoped to have a meal at a French restaurant. As we enjoyed dinner of middle eastern food at Kish in Marietta, I looked up some possibilities for someplace new to us, and Anis Cafe and Bistro in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood popped up. I turned to David and asked whether I remembered correctly, that he’d mentioned this place to us once. He reminded me that he loves Anis and hoped that we’d go. White Cherry Jam
This is Marie, contributing another article about jam. Now, this one is less for our regular readers than some hypothetical person who happens to be standing next to something interesting in the produce section and doing an internet search to see what the intriguing something is good for – in this case, white cherries. Can you tell I’ve done this a lot? Continue reading “White Cherry Jam”
Kish Restaurant, Marietta GA (CLOSED)
Marie’s father came to town to visit his favorite grandson – and the rest of us, I suppose – and suggested that we go to a French restaurant for dinner. He’s quite pleased to live within walking distance of two dozen restaurants on Saint Simons Island, but you don’t get French cooking in south Georgia. We’re within walking distance – maybe – of a Captain D’s. Marie’s father is somewhat convinced that we live in the wrong place. He’s not the only one. Continue reading “Kish Restaurant, Marietta GA (CLOSED)”
Diner, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)
I’d like to think that I’m a pretty patient fellow, but nothing’s worse than waiting and waiting for a restaurant to open, in part because we tend to wait a couple of months to give the management and staff time to work out the kinks before we visit a new place. We’re not in Atlantic Station very often, but Ron Eyester’s latest restaurant, called simply Diner, sat so enticingly for so long. I enjoy Eyester’s work a whole lot, and he’s often very funny on Twitter (a plus), so when the stars lined up just right, I was so glad to stop by. Continue reading “Diner, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)”
Rib & Loin, Hixson TN
Our June trip to Chattanooga was not on a very hot day, but after we ate at Zarzour’s, we cooled off anyway, with a trip to Coolidge Park to play in the fountain. Our son got good and drenched and had a terrific time. After about an hour of that, we drove north to Red Bank to visit Dub’s Place once again and dig into one of their “crumble burgers.” (We just updated that original post with a few lines and pictures rather than writing a new post, so check that out!) Continue reading “Rib & Loin, Hixson TN”
