I’ve been down on eastern Tennessee barbecue and quick to praise the much better meals that I’ve been able to find all over Georgia. But what about the places just a few minutes’ drive from Chattanooga? Is the state line really all that great a barrier? Continue reading “Spencer B’s BBQ, Ringgold GA”

Medi’s Mediterranean Fusion, Macon GA
For Thanksgiving, Marie took some time to visit her family while I stayed home and worked extra shifts. On her way to south Georgia, she stopped for a good meal. Continue reading “Medi’s Mediterranean Fusion, Macon GA”
B’s Cracklin’ Barbecue, Atlanta GA
There were several instances where I questioned whether I really wanted to move to Tennessee. One was when I heard the advance buzz that Bryan Furman would be opening a second location of his popular Savannah barbecue restaurant about twenty minutes from our old house. Heavy’s Bar-B-Q, Crawfordville GA
Here’s a restaurant in a part of the state we rarely visit at meal time; we’ve usually been on our way to Augusta or Columbia early in the morning, before this place opened, and returning full and disinterested in stopping late in the evening. But since we were working in reverse on this trip, we were able to eat here, and enjoyed a spectacular meal. Continue reading “Heavy’s Bar-B-Q, Crawfordville GA”
Cleve Edmunds Bar-B-Que, Augusta GA
It had only been about three months since I had some barbecue in Georgia. (It had only been about twenty-four hours since I had barbecue at the Skylight Inn, but that’s not relevant right now.) I’d been hoping to find great barbecue in Tennessee and had been failing so spectacularly that I couldn’t wait to get some good Georgia barbecue again, and this delightful old place did not let me down. Continue reading “Cleve Edmunds Bar-B-Que, Augusta GA”
4 Way Lunch, Cartersville GA
The week before we moved into our new place in Chattanooga, Marie had to go to Nashville for a week’s training and the girlchild was away with family. So my son and I had a few days to get into trouble, and also shuttle some carloads of boxes to the public storage unit down the street from our new place. Going back and forth and back and forth, it occurred to me that my son would certainly enjoy a few hours at Tellus Science Museum just north of Cartersville, and this would finally give me a chance to try a burger at a classic greasy spoon nearby. Continue reading “4 Way Lunch, Cartersville GA”
Zombie Pig BBQ, Columbus GA
Practically across the street from one of the oldest barbecue traditions in this part of the state, one of the newest has set up shop. They’re not like most of the competition, that’s for sure. Continue reading “Zombie Pig BBQ, Columbus GA”
