Man Chun Hong, Doraville GA

Over the last four years, all my old stereotypes of Chinese food have been dismantled and demolished, and I have started to enjoy the pleasure of finding more authentic cooking. At this stage, there are only a couple of places in the Atlanta area that we’ve visited a second or third time as we look for more places with exciting menus to add to our small knowledge base. I think we can safely add Doraville’s Man Chun Hong to that short list. This is definitely a place we want to visit again repeatedly. Continue reading “Man Chun Hong, Doraville GA”

Mama’s Pizza, Alpharetta GA

Our old friend Matt has taken a job in Alpharetta, giving us a chance to meet up with him and sample another north Fulton restaurant. He suggested Mama’s Pizza, which has been selling New York-style slices since 1979. Peter Vavaroutsos emigrated from Greece to New York City in the mid-1950s, learned to make pizza the local way, and moved to the Big Peach after twenty years in the Big Apple. His son Jimmy now carries on the family tradition. Continue reading “Mama’s Pizza, Alpharetta GA”

Rincon Latino, Doraville GA

A few weeks back, Marie and I joined Marilyn from Atlanta etc. and her son for a terrific experience with good grease on Buford Highway. Rincon Latino, a joint that specializes in Central American goodies that are just outside the usual comfort zone of traditional Tex-Mex dishes, is popular for their pupusas and sopes. Yum Yum Dessert Company, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)

This is Marie, contributing an article about Yum Yum Dessert Company, formerly Yum Yum Cupcakes & More. If you have seen their pink cupcake truck at food truck parks you may have had one of the treats already; you may remember them as the cupcakes with girls’ names. Well, there are a whole lot more neat sweets in store. Continue reading “Yum Yum Dessert Company, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)”

CousCous, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)

A few Sundays ago, our friend Leslie from The Food and Me invited us to join her at one of her new favorite restaurants. CousCous opened just last year, tucked back on Dutch Valley Road a few doors down from One Midtown Kitchen, and it’s been doing its business pretty quietly, flying under everybody’s radar. She and some friends had visited several times, taking advantage of some offers on Groupon or Scoutmob to sample many things on the menu. Continue reading “CousCous, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)”

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta GA

If you’re like me and rarely fly, you probably have a deeply outdated and awfully unfair stereotype of what airport food is like. I think of arriving in Muncie at 10.05 and wishing for a slice of microwaved pizza. Well, last month, I got to join a pile of my friends old and new from the Association of Food Bloggers to go behind the security gates at Hartsfield-Jackson to see how airport dining has improved since the last time that I flew.
