Regular readers might have noticed that over the last month or so, I’ve been sampling all the barbecue joints around Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood that we have never featured before. Last of these is the second home for The Greater Good, whose first store, in Tucker, opened in 2012. Continue reading “The Greater Good BBQ, Atlanta GA”

Goldberg’s Bagel Company and Deli, Atlanta GA
I’ve eaten at the Goldberg’s on West Paces a few times over the years, even knowing – as I learned in 2012 – that their potato salad could well be my undoing. This is one of six locations around Atlanta, plus at least three inside Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and until the other night, it had been the only one that I visited. Earlier this month, the Association of Food Bloggers arranged a media dinner at the small chain’s original location on Roswell Road, near Wieuca, which I had never visited before. In a really neat twist, it turns out that this strip mall has been the launching pad for two highly-regarded Atlanta-based chains. Both Goldberg’s, which opened in 1972, and Willy’s Mexicana Grill, which opened in the space next door, got their starts here. Continue reading “Goldberg’s Bagel Company and Deli, Atlanta GA”
Old South Bar-B-Q, Smyrna GA (take two)
I miss my dad a whole lot, but a recent trip to his all-time favorite barbecue joint made me miss him even more. I missed how he would have reacted to a menu change that would have had him fuming, in his good-natured way. Continue reading “Old South Bar-B-Q, Smyrna GA (take two)”
Chapter 1000: The Butcher The Baker, Marietta GA
Today marks a big milestone for our blog. It is our 1000th chapter! We’ve been sharing between fifteen and twenty posts a month with you good people since February 2010. We’ve picked up a few hundred subscribers, along with a pretty nice bunch of followers on Twitter and also, when it feels like actually sharing what we post, on Facebook, and we’re very glad that you’re enjoying our stories. We seem to have a pretty good presence on Urbanspoon’s leaderboards in quite a few cities, and we’ve got to visit lots of places we’ve never been before. We have so much more exploring to do, and some neat ideas for new trips through the rest of the year. Thanks so much for reading us, and telling your friends about us. (What? You’ve not told your friends yet? Well, we’re sure you’ll get around to that soon.) Continue reading “Chapter 1000: The Butcher The Baker, Marietta GA”
Tin Drum Asiacafé, Atlanta GA
Tin Drum is a local chain of Asian-themed fast-casual eateries, with a variety of noodle and rice dishes for just under eight dollars. I’ve always enjoyed their food, and since I’ve somehow evolved into something of a design nerd – I swear, that was never planned – I was interested to read that the new store, which is in a brand new little strip mall on Briarcliff at the intersection with North Druid Hills, is the first to feature a new design and appearance. Normally, that wouldn’t – or at least it shouldn’t – be a pull (“Malibu Stacey has a new hat!”), but since Tin Drum quite badly needed a new look, we wanted to go see it. Jamaican Jerk, Marietta GA
A few weeks ago, after we had supper at Taqueria Real de la Villa, we went the other way on Franklin Road for the first time. Going south to Delk Road, we saw a pretty blighted strip shopping center on the left, with a Jamaican restaurant quietly doing its business without a lot of buzz. I’d never heard of this place, and couldn’t find any discussion of it anywhere. It’s called Jamaican Jerk and it’s been here since 2002. We came back a few days later, instead of making our usual Tuesday trip out for burgers, to give it a try. Continue reading “Jamaican Jerk, Marietta GA”
Le Café Crêpe, Marietta GA (CLOSED)
In March, a reader named Pam gave me a terrific idea. I had been mentioning how Marie seems to act like crêpes are nature’s perfect food or something, and she asked whether Marie had ever been to Le Café Crêpe near the Marietta Square. And me needing to figure out someplace nice to take her for our proper anniversary dinner and everything. (And yes, for those of you who have been following along the last few weeks, Marie did seem to get an abundance of anniversary meals, didn’t she? Funny how that worked out.)
