The Rotisserie Shop, Kennesaw GA
It’s been on our short list for ages and ages, and we finally went over to try The Rotisserie Shop, which opened two years ago in the space formerly occupied by a pizza place we liked, My Cousin Vinny’s. Owned by Carla Geniso and Chris Malfitano, it originally opened in the spring of 2013 as a casual place that mainly did carryout, but it was reformulated into a nicer, sit-down place with low lighting the following year. Pollo d’el Rey, Chamblee GA
One of the older little strip centers on Buford Highway, on the left if you’re going south inside the perimeter, has been home to a Domino’s Pizza – sorry, we’re not allowed to call them that anymore, they’re just Domino’s – for thirty years. Since Buford Highway is constantly changing and evolving, even more than most corridors in Atlanta – at least five of the restaurants that we’ve featured here in the last three years have shuttered, including two announced just this past weekend – we sort of notice when something sticks around that long, especially since even the larger national chains abandon their buildings or knock them down with oddball regularity here.

When I first visited El Pollo Dorado almost two years back, that got the gears in my head turning about the repurposed 1969-74 Shrimp Boats buildings, but I didn’t really start thinking about them until I went home that evening. The Twin Shrimp Boats of Rock Hill, SC
After we visited the Shrimp Boat in Lancaster, we got back on track for Rock Hill. We took back roads through Chester County and – no hyperbole – they were the worst paved roads that I’ve ever driven on. For miles. Even the patches had potholes. Shrimp Boat, Lancaster SC
When I began researching the lost Shrimp Boats chain, my curiosity was principally driven by a interest in the 1969-74 era buildings, and the initial story in this series (links below) was built around that. If you read that story, you’ll see that in the fourth paragraph, I quickly summarized the four locations in the vicinity of Charlotte (misidentifying the Lancaster store as in Springdale) and moved on to pictures of the buildings. Wingz on Wheelz, Marietta GA
A couple of months ago, I mentioned to my optician that Marie and I have this fun li’l blog and he had an emphatic recommendation for me. He said that you could get a killer hamburger at this little place in a strip mall on Whitlock. I had a devil of a time finding the place because of the cutesy respelling of “wings” and “wheels.” See, there’s a food truck in Los Angeles that beat them to the name, so they respelled it for their own trademark.
