Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria, Saint Simons Island GA

This is Marie, writing a story about a restaurant on Saint Simons that was recommended by a reader named Lyndon earlier this year. We recently had the opportunity to visit Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria on our most recent visit to south Georgia. My mother, familiar with the restaurant, assured us with great vigor that unless we wanted a toddler-tantrum-inducing wait, that we’d have to get there before 5:30. We got there just about at 5:30, and there was already a half hour wait. Luckily the toddler was gracious about it. Continue reading “Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria, Saint Simons Island GA”

Blue Bell Makes Ice Cream at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta

This is Marie, contributing a tiny little article about ice cream. You see, for National Ice Cream Day, Blue Bell sent a couple of representatives to The Children’s Museum of Atlanta to show kids how to make ice cream, and to hand out samples of their Homemade Vanilla. Red, White, and Blue Potato Salad

This is Marie, writing about a recipe inspired by a purchase from our local farmer’s market. One of the booths had a large display that called out to me – it was a row of baskets containing multicolored very small fingerling potatoes. I was thinking of cooking them as a side for meatballs (next time maybe…) but the merchant mentioned that they had used them for red, white and blue potato salad – and this being the weekend before July 4th, it made perfect sense. I don’t usually make potato salad, out of deference to Grant’s decision to cut it (tragically, and much missed) from his diet, but declared that this was a special case and he conceded. Au Rendez-Vous, Chamblee GA

This is Marie, with an article about a French restaurant where we enjoyed a spontaneous meal a few weeks ago. The four of us went out on Saturday evening intending to hang out with some buddies, but as they were unavoidably detained and the place selected would have been the second pizza joint in two days, we looked around at the places close to where we were when plans changed. Thank goodness for Urbanspoon’s mobile ap. We allowed the baby to keep one of the six golf balls he had found in the grass at a park in Chamblee (nothing delights a toddler as much as a ball of any kind), and went to Au Rendez-vous Cafe Bistro instead. One recommendation – if you have two cars, take the smaller one. Parking is not spacious. Continue reading “Au Rendez-Vous, Chamblee GA”

Ming’s B.B.Q., Doraville GA

This is Marie, contributing a second-glance take on Ming’s. We were with the kids and with our fellow bloggers from Spatialdrift, Emily and Adam. They are getting progressively closer to 285 in their quest to eat their way up Buford Highway, and we intended to come with them to their next restaurant. After a brief detour in a place that keeps food unrefrigerated on a counter and therefore got ruled out, we wound up at Ming’s. Grant had visited the Duluth store before to eat lunch with Sandy from Bella Vivere and had taken the kids with him, so that left only 50% of the party going for the first time. Ye Olde Christmas and Candy Shoppe, Marietta GA (CLOSED)

This is Marie, contributing an article about the endless search for vanilla fudge, I mean about finding a candy store called Ye Olde Christmas And Candy Shoppe. It has been around for just over a year, having celebrated its anniversary in April, and since today is apparently National Fudge Day, it’s a great time to write about it. Chow Bing Chinese Grill, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)

This is Marie, contributing a description of a visit to Chow Bing, a Chinese restaurant in a tough location that I hope it can overcome. With any luck the Grady Hospital staff will discover the place and prop it up as more people discover it. It’s just around the curve from the hospital in the new Pencil Factory Lofts building.
