Hilltop Grille, Athens GA

Since we work with both a backlog and several drafts, I’m writing this entry the day after Georgia again won the SEC Eastern division with a win over Auburn. It was a big one, a 38-0 shellacking on the Plains that had the orange-and-blue faithful dejected and abandoning Jordan-Hare Stadium at halftime. Continue reading “Hilltop Grille, Athens GA”

Chat Patti, Atlanta GA

A few months ago, when I resolved to start sampling more of Atlanta’s Indian restaurants, we got a few ideas via email and Twitter for new places to try. One of our readers, Viraj Deshmukh, recommended that I stop by Chat Patti, a popular vegetarian joint that’s located in that little “elbow” between Briarcliff and North Druid Hills, sort of between the Super Target and Tin Roof Cantina. The Capital Grille’s Fall Menu

Our friends at The Capital Grille invited us to try their new lunch “Plates” menu which, depending on location, offers guests a starter, entree and a side for $16-18. Additionally, it’s designed to get guests on their lunch hour in and out quickly. The newest additions to the menu are veal and prosciutto polpettes, a butternut squash bisque, and tricolored cauliflower. Continue reading “The Capital Grille’s Fall Menu”

Voting Day!

Two Saturdays before the election, for the first time, Georgia allowed weekend early voting. While the girlchild spent the morning with her godmother, following a long, late night at Six Flags, Marie and I took the baby to the Cobb County Civic Center and spent a very long time waiting in line. We had a blast. Continue reading “Voting Day!”

Blue Moon Pizza, Smyrna GA

This is Marie, contributing an article about a restaurant experience where we didn’t even have dessert. Unusual, I know.

We were temporarily teenagerless and Grant wanted to treat me to dinner at a place I picked. I thought back to the non-dairy days and recalled a dinner where I had quite a lovely salad but would have much preferred a big gooey slab of cheesy pizza, and picked Blue Moon Pizza. Grant had seen that they had another branch closer to where we were than the one we had visited previously and we gave that one a go. Continue reading “Blue Moon Pizza, Smyrna GA”

Pancho’s, Atlanta GA

A few weeks ago, I went out on one of my early days, and arrived at a restaurant far too early. I don’t object to waiting around for fifteen minutes for a place to open – that’s when I can get some good reading done – but I’d neglected to confirm when the restaurant actually opened, and while fifteen minutes is no problem, an hour and fifteen’s a bit much. Continue reading “Pancho’s, Atlanta GA”

Thatcher’s Barbeque and Grill, Trenton GA

Our planned tour of northwestern Georgia barbecue only managed half of the planned number of restaurants, although it is likely that we visited the most northwestern barbecue restaurant in the state. I would happily be proven wrong, but I can’t find evidence that there are any closer to the corner than Thatcher’s in Trenton. This town, located about six miles from both the Alabama and Tennessee lines, is the county seat of what I still call the Free State of Dade.
