This is Marie, contributing an article about a restaurant experience where we didn’t even have dessert. Unusual, I know.

We were temporarily teenagerless and Grant wanted to treat me to dinner at a place I picked. I thought back to the non-dairy days and recalled a dinner where I had quite a lovely salad but would have much preferred a big gooey slab of cheesy pizza, and picked Blue Moon Pizza. Pancho’s, Atlanta GA

A few weeks ago, I went out on one of my early days, and arrived at a restaurant far too early. I don’t object to waiting around for fifteen minutes for a place to open – that’s when I can get some good reading done – but I’d neglected to confirm when the restaurant actually opened, and while fifteen minutes is no problem, an hour and fifteen’s a bit much. And so we went back to the Food Truck Park…

I did not specifically intend to revisit the Atlanta Food Truck Park on Howell Mill, but I’m very glad that we did, because we had a really great time and ate very well.

Marie had suggested fried chicken for supper a couple of Saturdays ago, and I was keen for her to try Curly’s Fried Chicken, which is located a little further down the opposite direction on Howell Mill, and which I had really enjoyed when I visited in the summer. In fact, the more I thought about it, the more keen I was for a visit. But the teenage girlchild started grumbling. Suddenly, she didn’t like chicken, and never had. Scott’s Walk-Up Bar-B-Q, Cartersville GA

A reader had recommended that we give Scott’s Walk-Up Bar-B-Q in Bartow County a try. We didn’t have any specific plans for the second Saturday in October, and as our dance card started to fill with some major plans through the end of the year, I thought it a good idea for the four of us to just hop up the road for a quite short little trip. Scott’s is maybe half an hour from our place in Cobb, and while our hobbyist friends have mostly shied away from Cartersville – Dustin of the Georgia Barbecue Hunt is the only one that I can find who has paid Scott’s a visit – this place has received some solid writeups from newspapers and magazines, and has a devoted following. Noche Tequila & Tapas, Vinings GA (CLOSED)

The good people at Urbanspoon have, correctly (he said with entirely affected and playful pretension), determined that Atlanta is one of the hotbeds of great food writing among the hobbyists and bloggers, and organized a little get-together and happy hour for our community at Noche in Vinings a couple of weeks ago. I was glad to spend a little time meeting some Urbanspoon Prime users who make that service so terrific, and visiting with some of our friends, including Malika from Atlanta Restaurant Blog and Marilyn from Atlanta etc., and was glad to meet more bloggers, including fellow Bulldawg Sandy from Bella Vivere and Allison, The Newbie Foodie, who is relocating to the west coast soon. Havana Restaurant, Atlanta GA (CLOSED)

Once upon a time, Atlanta was home to a pair of remarkably good sandwich shops where people could go for authentic Cuban food: Havana and Kool Korner. Then, across two terrible years, Kool Korner’s owner retired (only to move to Birmingham, get restless and reopen his beloved store) and Havana burned to the ground. Fortunately, around the time that Silvesonso Ramirez went back into business in Alabama, Debbie Benedit and her son Eddie Benedit Jr. reopened Havana using most of the same recipes that Eddie’s grandfather Guido had used when he first opened Havana on Buford Highway in 1976. Then there was, briefly, some bad blood boiling as Eddie’s uncle started his own sandwich shop with a very similar name. That’s all in the past now, but doing further reading of older stories about this restaurant – see the list below – will probably find traces of the family disagreements. Our friends at Seasons 52 invited us to come back to their Dunwoody location to sample highlights from their autumn menu.
