Boyd’s Bar-B-Q, Smyrna GA (CLOSED)

In early November, my daughter and I were driving along South Cobb Drive in Smyrna and were surprised to see that a new barbecue place had moved into the building that had once been the home of StaQs. It’s an old, 1960s-era Waffle House, and this stretch of road has not been all that kind to restaurants in the last five or six years. We decided to swing by the next time we were in the area. She had a doctor’s appointment nearby in early December. I figured, wrongly, that she would eat lunch at school and have a side with me once I collected her. No, I made the mistake of sharing plans and she skipped lunch at school, waiting until we got to the counter to order to hit me up with puppy-dog eyes and tell me how hungry she was, and how good those wings sounded. Dadblasted young’un.

Blue Moon Pizza, Smyrna GA

This is Marie, contributing an article about a restaurant experience where we didn’t even have dessert. Unusual, I know.

We were temporarily teenagerless and Grant wanted to treat me to dinner at a place I picked. I thought back to the non-dairy days and recalled a dinner where I had quite a lovely salad but would have much preferred a big gooey slab of cheesy pizza, and picked Blue Moon Pizza. Swapna Indian Cuisine, Smyrna GA

Since I mentioned a few chapters back that I intend to do a better job looking for reliable Indian restaurants in the Atlanta area, I received some recommendations from readers that sound terrific. I intend to visit those in the next month or two, but first, opportunity presented itself and I had lunch at Swapna on Cobb Parkway just outside the perimeter. I really wanted to try this place because, unlike several other places around Atlanta, it gets rave reviews for its buffet lunch. I really did enjoy the buffet at the since-closed Moksha in Roswell a lot more than I thought plausible, and I was keen to try different things at different restaurants. Crepe Revolution, Smyrna GA (CLOSED)

Marie and I had been thinking about visiting Crepe Revolution for a really, really long time, and finally stopped by earlier this month. In a previous chapter, I wrote about how our Friday evenings are often spent at home, but we decided to meet halfway this time out and be a little social without fighting the traffic too much. Since my mother lives just a mile or so from Crepe Revolution, which is located in a quite nice mixed-use development in Smyrna that borders I-285 and Atlanta Road, we planned to meet there after work. We Tracked the Food Trucks to Smyrna

If our previous chapters about Atlanta’s food trucks have suggested that I’m still a little confused by them, that’s reasonable. As much as I wish to like the idea of them, something about the way they’re wrangled and rodeoed in Atlanta has left me stumped. It doesn’t help that not a month goes by without some bizarre bit of weird press, usually related to the city of Atlanta or one of the properties upon which the trucks park finding some new reason to inconvenience the trucks’ owners with some new permit or requirement. Del Taco, Smyrna GA

…Atlanta store # 3 for Del Taco opened in the middle of July in Smyrna, at the intersection of Cobb Parkway (US-41) and Herodian. Most recently, the building had been home to one of the nine El Pollo Loco stores that briefly found a home in this region. This is the first of the new stores to directly compete with Taco Bell – there is one across the street and a couple of hundred yards south – and also with a traditional tacqueria. 2012 has actually been a pretty eventful year for Cajun and Creole cooking in Cobb County, with one new restaurant, one closure, and one reopening.
